Running Dream Projects List

I started thinking about dream projects with Forty Psychic Frames when I was working on Unknown Circuitry (ie once I realized I/we can actually make our own beats). In fact Unknown Circuitry was probably the first dream project I had and after it started coming together my mind was racing (233mHz-ha?) I've written about some of them a long time ago, but recently I started writing about dream projects on a forum post about a dream project and started thinking I needed a definitive list. Fortunately we're already working on a lot of dream albums now: Forrest's Ad Libitum Avenue, Redeux!, Sample Pages etc. So, the following are ideas that may have been posted before, but are mostly ones I just need to see written out so I can legitimize them (for myself). Yay.

Coyote and Lil' Kupkake - A Woman's Place EP
concept: Taking the magic from Scurvy D's "Something Happened" and distilling it down to 40PF newcomers Coyote and Lil' Kupkake. It would be mostly originals based around riot-grrl-style songs with lots of guitar and just the girls. Not only would we get to know these characters but we would finally have a strong female prescence in the 40PF that has sorely been lacking. (P.S. - I don't like the title either)

Anthony Jackson and Wyatt Furtherton - They're In the Other Room EP
concept: A short album (maybe six or seven songs) featuring AJ and Wyatt with all original beats. "Pins 1 + 2" were the obvious inspiration for this, but even more is inspired by the time AJ and I were in Phillip/my room in 220 while Scurvy and Forrest were playing Galaxies. I think we could do almost all of this in three days.

Forty Psychic Frames - Untitled WOW Story Line Album
concept: Scurvy D, Forrest, DJ D, and maybe Fambrough take the concept of making a song about WoW and extend it into a short or long concept album. They develop a story line or quest or series of events in game and take the listener along on the journey! Seriously though it sounds like a nerd-box that no one could get out of after two songs, it could lead to an epic story that transcends the WoW universe altogether. Beats would (hopefully) be modeled on in game music.

Forty Psychic Frames - Hate Hate Hate
concept: This one is Anthony's idea and I like it the more I think about it. Essentially we make a long or short album of disses. We did it to poor Jay and have hated on things before (ISP, Erlandson, Phillip, etc.) but this would be an extension of the vitriol that lies in all of us. Possible hate topics: tampon commercials, people believing in "sex addiction," Wocka Flocka Flame, idiotic sports commentators, Cheesecake Factory, etc.

Shorty Strong - I Told You to Sit Down and SHUT UP!!! -
concept: (originally posted here) Essentially a Shorty Strong concept album in which he holds 40PF hostage and in doing so, they end up recording this album

Forty Psychic Frames - Untitled Christmas Album
concept: 40PF finally makes a Christmas album. This is a long standing dream for me and a slam dunk as far as individual song concepts go. However, it is extremely hard to write new indelible Christmas songs which is why I think maybe we should sample traditional (ie FREE) songs and rap over them. I would say "Instant classic!" if that was something I were the type of person to say such things.

Scurvy D - Untitled Political Album
concept: I'm thinking of a possible line like "this aggression won't stand / unless it's by my hand / I've got raised to the face of the ignorant white man" That's pretty bad, and a pathetic attempt at trying to use a Big Lebowski quote, which is why the political should be left to Scurvy D. Like the Coyote/Lil' Kupkake album this would fulfill a longstanding album trope that 40PF could always do but hasn't ever. Scurvy D is the resident political studies connoisseur and this album would expand his palette of protest and politically charged rap songs even further. Add this with the ever-growing need for a protest album from anyone in these times and we have the seeds of a really great album. Must include point/counterpoint debate song with DJ D.

Forty Psychic Frames - Indian Style
concept: At the surface it's the beatbox/accapella album we made in the beginning that we never thought we were actually making. This would take the style, heart and energy of the early songs of 40PF and mix it with the production and musical prowess we've developed over the years to make a "homey sounding" kind of album. But more than that it would (hopefully) catch 40PF as the close knit group that it is by using pass-the-mic techniques, single all-at-once takes, and live instrumentation (complete with acoustic guitars and pianos). It's what the big shots call "the live studio album".

Scurvy D and Friends - Rowan County Jamboree
concept: Scurvy D and Wyatt produce a number (5 - 8) songs featuring Scurvy D, Wyatt, Coyote and Lil' Kupkake. Also features guest players who come along for a visit (DJ D, Forrest, Fambrough, etc.)

Scurvy D and Coyote - Hand in Hand
concept: All songs with Scurvy D and Coyote, with maybe some guests appearences. This could go a number of ways conceptually all of which could be really good. Also would fufill my dream for having female/male tete-a-tete songs.

Forty Psychic Frames - Impersonations
concept: This expands the concept of DJ D's--that will feature Wyatt writing DJ D's part and DJ D writing Wyatt's part--to everyone. Anthony writes Forrest's part, who writes Scurvy D's part, who writes DJ D's part, and so on and so forth. Would probably only be good for four or five songs but would be a lot of fun to make.

Forty Psychic Frames - Hometowns
concept: Every member takes a town that they either A. were born in B. grew up in C. made up D. want to write about arbitrarily E. live in F. visited G. all of the above and writes about it. That's five or six songs right there. Add one or two more where the entire group writes about a place we've all had an experience in and we finally have an album about 40PF and how the places we've embraced in our lives have effected us and our music. Someone get NPR on the phone!

(Forrest): These are some great ideas! We should make some of em a reality. On a side note, I really enjoyed reading through this blog, Wy. You should keep it up!
